Tucked away in the quiet village of Brotuna, part of the Vața de Jos commune, the “Saint Nicholas” Church invites visitors to uncover a silent yet powerful piece of local history. The current structure, built around 1870 at the latest, stands on the site of an earlier wooden church mentioned in 18th-century records — a building that was sadly destroyed during the 1848 Revolution. Though not officially listed as a historic monument, the church houses a valuable mural painting created between 1850 and 1866. The surviving fragments still echo the artistic skill of that period.

Over the decades, renovations in 1961, 1987, and 2007 have helped preserve this spiritual treasure, which belongs to the Basarabasa Parish. Dedicated to Saint Nicholas, the church remains a living testament to the enduring faith and resilience of the local community.
