At the end of a storybook trail through the Mures Valley, in the village of Obarsia (part of Petris commune), you'll find one of the last still-functioning watermills in Romania — a place where time seems to have paused to keep tradition alive.

Built around 1950, the Obarsia watermill was crafted using a unique traditional technique known locally as “sosilor.” Set in a picturesque natural setting, the mill draws in visitors who are passionate about nature, history, and authentic craftsmanship.

Inside, you can explore its two rooms: one houses the grinding mechanism, while the other — the miller’s room — preserves the simple charm of days gone by. Outside, a large wooden waterwheel turns gracefully with the flow of water — a captivating sight for anyone curious about how traditional mills once worked.

It’s a charming stop, full of authentic rural character — the perfect way to end a hike through the Zarand region with a hands-on lesson in living history.
