The wooden church in Ociu
Ociu
PROGRAM DE VIZITARE:
-
Just a short walk from the center of Vata de Jos, perched on a hill overlooking the Cris River, the wooden church in the village of Ociu welcomes visitors with its peaceful charm. Dedicated to Saints Michael and Gabriel, this church stands on the site of an older place of worship and reflects the local architectural style with its rectangular layout and extended apse, adapted to meet the needs of a growing community.
Inside, the mural paintings from 1821 still retain their original beauty, while the royal icons captivate with their delicate details and stucco frames adorned with floral motifs typical of the region. Two of the icons, kept in the narthex, are believed to come from the original 18th-century iconostasis, adding spiritual depth and historical value to this serene place of worship and reflection.
