Perched on the scenic Bujoara Hill above the village of Vata de Sus in Hunedoara County, Bujoara Hermitage is a place of deep spiritual resonance. This humble wooden chapel watches over the land of Tara Zarandului in peaceful silence — a serene retreat, close to the sky.
This is the blessed place where, on September 29, 1910, Zian Boca was born — the man who would later become known as Father Arsenie Boca, a revered spiritual guide and visionary. Even as a child, Zian stood out for his devotion to faith and his love of solitude, earning the nickname “The Saint” as early as his high school years.
Built more than a century ago on the mountain slope, the hermitage has since become a pilgrimage destination for believers from all over Romania. Locals from the villages at the foot of Bujoara Hill often make their way up the path, bringing flowers, saying prayers, and finding peace in this sacred space.
From the top of Bujoara, the view is breathtaking — the valleys of Cris and the scattered mountain villages unfold beneath your feet, offering a perfect moment of stillness, reflection, and connection to the divine.
