In Ruda-Brad, traces of Dacian gold and Roman rule are still visible today. After the conquest of Dacia, the Romans transformed this region into a major mining center. In the hills surrounding the villages of Barza and Ruda, gold was extracted both from river sands and from ore, through galleries carved directly into the rock.

One of the most fascinating remnants of that era is the gallery known as the “Roman Steps”, where you can walk in the footsteps of ancient miners. The trail leading there winds through birch forests and a peaceful valley – a beautiful blend of nature and history.

Nearby, archaeologists also discovered a necropolis of Illyrian miners, brought here by the Romans. Everyday objects, tools, and ceramic vessels found on site tell the story of a long-forgotten community that once played a vital role in the wealth of the empire.
